Reading “Max’s Kansas City: Art, Glamour, Rock and Roll” — or rather leafing through the lush, black-and-white photographs, at East Village Books — I felt a rare emotion: nostalgia for someone else’s life. (And whose life? I’d guess Lou Reed’s. Lou is a nostalgic man, judging from his greatest songs. “Perfect Day” is an evening’s nostalgia for afternoon. And “Heroin” expresses a longing for schooners.)
