[In which we find out the Twitter philosophies of my most beloved follows.]

Twitter username: @darbylarson
Real name: Darby Larson
Recent memorable tweet: “something about a castrato T ball coach”

How often do you tweet? Do you limit yourself to a number of tweets per day, or to a certain time of day? Any other OCD-like tweeting tendencies?

still feeling out my tweequency since i’m a newbie to it. i tweet when i think of something or when its convenient to. i only really started tweeting, or began to understand the value of twitter, when i got an iphone. i’m never on twitter on my computer. twitter on a computer seems like too much machine for the task. a computer suits facebook better. on a phone twitter suddenly made sense. so usually that’s how i’m doing it, like at random times during the day or at work or in line somewhere.

What is your ‘follow’ philosophy? Do you follow everyone who follows you? Do you follow celebrities, lit mags, ex-boyfriends?

when i started a few months ago, i looked around for celebrities a lot and followed them because i didnt know what else to do really. then i got kind of annoyed by watching celebrities tempt their followers with potential RTs and i started unfollowing a lot. i’m now more likely to not follow than follow. i like that twitter doesn’t use the facebook ‘friending’ misnomer. i feel less guilty unfollowing you than unfriending you. so it doesnt take much for me to unfollow you. if i unfollow you it means i love you still. twitter feels like where i want my online social interaction to be the most like i’m in control of what i see. so i’m really particular with it. i follow a lot of local news outlets now, and tweeters who are consistently challenging the form like blake butler and mark leidner and amelia gray.

What is your @ philosophy? Do you tweet people back, engage in ‘chit chat,’ become annoyed when others do?

sometimes but not much. i used to at first but not much lately. im not a chit-chatty person in person so. im usually not tweeting to be like communicative unless its late and im a little drinky. i hate saying that yes i do get annoyed when i see others chit chat but i do, but that happens outside twitter too. that’s horrible to say maybe. lets liken it to like when im in line at the coffee shop and im trying to pay attention to the schubert they’ve got playing and suddenly people in front of me start chatting loudly about like french fries or something.

What is your #hashtag philosophy?

i dont know. use sparingly i guess. i tried to be clever with it at first, like doing meta tags like ‘####quadhash’, or trying to tweet the trending hashes with more irreverency, but i think i’ve exhausted my interest in them now.

Do you obsess about number of: followers / retweets / favorites / unfollows / other?

i dont think so. its nice that anyone would follow me and would favorite any of my tweets, but twitter is pretty tangential to my actual life where i obsess about things like where am i going to get some caffeine soon god dammit.

How do you think you come across to your followers? How would you like to come across?

i dont know. probably like someone who’s trying to be too clever most of the time, but occasionally it works, and the rest of the time, non-engaging and anti-social. i think that’s how i come across to most people in people world so twitter’s working for me.

What do you want people to remember about your Twitter account?

nothing. twitter’s not for remembering, it’s for following and forgetting. then every tweet is a surprise.
