Here’s the scoop, and the poop.

Environmental artist and activist, Adam Katzman, whose houseboat was docked for awhile in the Gowanus canal, is fundraising for his new Poop and Paddle self-contained sewage treatment plant. Plant, here, can be used literally, since cattails, rushes and water hyacinths are part of the 30-day cleaning operation, as are snails. The first thirty people to contribute $25 to his goal of taking his dumping ground to Maker Faire get the dubious prize of a Poop and Paddle T-shirt, and opportunities to get up (too) close at promotional events. I do like the wildly inventive environmental boats the artists at Expedition Gowanus build. Last year’s phytoremediation workshop I attended was the kind of interesting and sensible form of science education that would have swayed me over to biology in high school. By the way, I don’t know how to categorize this post, unless I scategorize it…
