Baby, what’s your list?

So I met this person recently who wears really great jumpers and has good hair but might also be a massive d-bag. I say this because said individual spent quite a lot of verbal energy telling me how awful US poetry was, dissing Gertrude Stein and saying all contemporary poetry was crap, before admitting that he had never even read Elizabeth Bishop.

In the spirit of not being totally awful, he asked for a list of poets I thought he had to read. This is what was written on the bar napkin.

What would your list be, huh?

i wouldn’t recommend something until i know the person a little more to really consider what they’d like but if i am listing favorite contemporary poets i’d add: lara glenum, mike young, mark leidner, melissa broder, stephen daniel lewis, ben mirov, adam maynard, daniel bailey

Less Nate Pritts, more Larry Levis (but this is super fun and Nate Pritts is a cool guy ok)

I think you put the wrong WS. WS Merwin is the good one, though Graham is not bad.
