I spent yesterday afternoon doing a lecture on Donald Barthelme at a college here in Wroclaw, Poland. I gave a lot of love to Snow White and even interrupted the lecture to give a surprise “test” that mirrored the one within the book. Love his work, and I’m thrilled to be able to introduce him to Polish students.

      that’s awesome

i think seriously that this snow white is one of my all-time favorite books. it’s one of few that i finished and actually went right back to the beginning and read again. i felt completely enveloped in it, in a way almost like manhandled by it, engrossed, like i cannot articulate the experience that book was for me

also, i like this guy’s excitement for things (the guy in the video)

also can i come visit… i really want to visit poland… i feel drawn to its, um, boys

It’s an awesome book. Actually, I’ve been in love with Barthelme’s short stories since I was in university. “The School” pretty much changed my life. Any opportunity to talk about his work is a blessing.

The man’s excitement on the video is pretty intense. I haven’t seen that much interest in reading since the speed reader on Gnu News.

The more the merrier here in Poland!

i prefer the dead father, but yeah!

a barthelme story changed my life too, but it was ‘some of us have been threatening our friend colby,’ a friend gave me a xeroxed copy he got in a class because he knew i liked ‘weird stuff’ & was against capital punishment – still one of my favorite pieces of writing
