We Who Are About to Weekend: Volume 1

August 31, 2012 \pm\31 4:09 pm

**We Who Are About to Weekend is a weekly link round-up, book hype repository, and red carpet gif into the weekend. It will happen every Friday afternoon during the semester.

The new issue of Diagram came out today. Live-your-life-weird-and-with-heart work from Wendy Xu, Joshua Ware, Tyler Gobble, Kit Frick, G.C. Waldrep, David Dodd Lee, and others. Dig it.

At McSweeney’s, the great Matt Bell has a grading scale made completely out of Samuel Beckett quotes. My favorite: “F: Nothing happens. Nobody comes, nobody goes. It’s awful.”

Harriet pointed me to a pdf of John Wieners’ 707 Scott Street journals. It’s excellent. And check out this amazing archive of Wieners readings at PennSound.

It’s the last day to jump on the Buy One Get One Free sale at H_NGM_N. Don’t be a dummy.

I’ve been reading Paul Legault’s The Emily Dickinson Reader from McSweeney’s and it’s making me LOL. #398: “I hate people who die when it’s really beautiful outside.” #958: “It’s spring. There are daffodils. Someone is sexually reproducing at this very moment.” #1393: “There are small cows crawling across my eyes.”

Also half-way through Jac Jemc’s My Only Wife from Dzanc. Hypnotic, unsettling repetition. Awesome look at obsession, relationships. Read it.

If you didn’t see the earlier post about Mary Ruefle’s Bookworm interview, find that here. Listen to it now. No other option.

I’ll be at the Decatur Book Festival outside Atlanta on Sunday to see Gina Myers, Bruce Covey, Molly Brodak, and Jericho Brown read. Vouched Books Atlanta will be there. Let’s hang out.

And your Labor Day weekend gif
